How to Make Switchel: A Home-Made Energy Drink

By accident, last summer, I discovered Switchel.

It is a delightful drink!

Switchel is basically a home-made energy/sport drink.  It cools you off and puts some electrolytes back in you, after you’ve been working in your gardens in the hot summer sun!

I think of it as a daily “tonic” that gives me a little boost!

I also like to take it with me when I go places.  I just pour some into a canning jar and use a plastic lid to close it.  SO much better than pop (or soda…depending on where you are 😉 ).

There are different ways to make Switchel, but this is the one I especially like:

Switchel Recipe

2 quarts water

1/2 cup honey

1/2 cup molasses

1/2 cup apple cider vinegar

5-6 slices of ginger

Stir until honey and molasses dissolve.  Chill.  Enjoy.

It is a drink that has basic ingredients, there are no artificial dyes or preservatives, it’s cheap to make and once you taste it, you’ll be hooked!

Time to mix up a big pitcher of Switchel and go sit under the shade trees!
