Old-Fashioned Baking

I love baking and have loved it ever since I was a kid.

It’s kind of like alchemy; you start with basic ingredients and end up with something far better than its humble beginnings.

Recently, I reflected on how much of my time is spent with a bowl cradled in my arm.  I try to keep homemade treats on hand, like cookies or muffins or cake.  I also make doggie treats for Heidi.

I have a hand mixer and a couple stand mixers, but there is something so soothing about gently mixing the ingredients by hand, smelling the aroma of spices or fruit and thinking about how much we will soon be enjoying it.   It’s my own form of Zen.

Old Fashioned Baking, mixing by hand

I just grab one of my bowls and my Granny Fork and mix up something delicious by hand. (If you don’t have a granny fork, a regular fork will do the trick.)

Try it sometime, I think you’ll like it!
